Linda Gregg Fields

For more than 22 years, Linda Gregg Fields, a true Texas legend, served as a loyal and loving VICTORY member and advocate for the American Cancer Society. Linda sadly passed away on October 23, 2019, after an arduous yet graceful five-year battle with ocular melanoma.

She treasured every moment, found happiness in the simplest to the most extravagant things… She loved history, nature, travel, her perfectly collected treasurers, people, this country, the planet, but above all, her cherished family and friends. Linda was full of beauty, grace, kindness, laughter, loyalty, and love which she expressed with her radiant smile.

Linda was born in San Antonio on Valentine’s Day in 1944 to Virginia Hofheinz Gregg and Stephen R. Gregg, and she grew up in San Marcos, Texas. She was a proud seventh generation Texan, a graduate of Texas State University, a Strutter (a Texas State dance team), and a Chi Omega. After graduating from college, Linda taught school for eight years until her first child was born in 1974. After her teaching career, she donated much of her time volunteering and serving on committees and boards including Ronald McDonald House – Houston, VICTORY Houston – a branch of the American Cancer Society, Texas State University Foundation Board and Houston Museum of Natural Science Guild. Linda was honored by many organizations for her time, generosity and talents.

Linda, along with her husband of 50 years, Jerry Fields, were honored at the 2014 Cattle Barons Ball, “True Grit”, a fitting celebration for someone as strong as Linda. She is survived by her two children, Greggory Fields Burk and Jay D. Fields; her daughter-in-law, Allie Nachtigall Fields; two granddaughters, Virginia Fields Burk and Evelyn James Burk; and a grandson, Jay D. Fields, Jr.  She is also survived by her two brothers, Steve and Alex Gregg, and her husband, Jerry.

Linda’s family is truly humbled to receive this tribute in her memory and sincerely thanks VICTORY for their support during her life and countless happy memories over the years. If Linda were here today, she would be stating that it is such an honor to be remembered in such a wonderful way.
